The Springfield Sallies joined the AAGPBL in 1948, representing Springfield, IL. The club was the worst in the league, going 41-84, 35 and a half games behind the Racine Belles in the western division. They were managed by Carson Bigbee
The club had no All-Stars; the only player to have a very good year was second basewoman Evie Wawryshyn, who hit .262/~.313/.290 and tied for sixth in average. She also was among the top 10 in total bases (126), steals (66) and hits (114).
