Sporting Life
From BR Bullpen
Sporting Life was a national sports newspaper and magazine in the 19th century, but was superseded by The Sporting News. Sporting Life is a good source of early baseball history. It was used by baseball as its quasi-official publication and is extensively mined by current baseball researchers and historians. The primary sportswriter/ and researcher behind the paper was Francis Richter.
The paper was published from 1883-1917. It might have survived longer but for World War I, which caused many of its readers to spend time in Europe.
