[edit] Biographical Information

Owen "Spider" Clark' played in the majors in 1889-90. He was an all-purpose back-up, playing all nine positions on the diamond, and appearing at each position at least four times except for pitcher, where he only appeared once. He was in the minors in 1887-88 before coming to the majors.

He is the earliest player remembered with the first name Spider. Other Spiders have included Spider Jorgensen and Spider Wilhelm. Sporting Life, however, never called him Spider.

He died at age 24 in his hometown, Brooklyn.

"Owen Clark's first base playing has caught the crowds. He is deservedly a favorite." - Sporting Life, August 9, 1890
