Southern League
From BR Bullpen
The first two Southern Leagues were more appropriately called forerunners to the Southern Association. The first played in 1885-1886, and the second lasted five years (1892-1896), and they featured many of the cities that made up the SA.
The third Southern League is a class AA minor league that began play in 1964. Its origins can be traced back to the South Atlantic Association (known as "SALLY"), which was formed in 1904. As of 2005, the Southern League has ten clubs, divided into two five team divisions.
