Clarence "Soup" Campbell played outfield for two seasons for the Cleveland Indians. For the 1941 Indians he was a frequently-used fourth outfielder. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on March 2, 1942, missing the 1942-1945 seasons. Campbell returned to play for the Baltimore Orioles (IL) in 1946-1947.

Campbell is one of more than 20 major league players named Campbell, but is the only one formally called "Soup". A couple others were nicknamed "Soup".

He hit .321 with 10 triples for New Orleans in 1939.

Campbell managed in the minors in 1952 at Lexington.

He is the only major league non-pitcher to come out of Hampden-Sydney College (through 2008).
