[edit] Biographical Information
Skeeter Kell, George Kell's brother, was the regular second baseman for the 1952 Philadelphia Athletics in his only major league season. He also played several seasons in the A's minor league organization.
Skeeter's brother George also played for the Athletics, but that was years before Skeeter came to the team.
Both he and George attended Swifton High School in Swifton, AR.
Skeeter came out of the University of Arkansas, where he attended in 1948-51. Nobody from the University of Arkansas had made his major league debut in nearly 20 years when Skeeter did in 1952. Although Skeeter was at Arkansas through 1951, he was already playing in the minors in 1949-51. He hit .353 for Cordele in 1950.
The book Commonplaces has a photo of him.
There is a chain of sporting good stores called Skeeter Kell Sporting Goods.
