Linus Ebnet (Skeets, Skeeter)

Skeeter Ebnet was a minor league player killed by a pitch in 1938. He was the cousin of Lefty Ebnet. Skeeter debuted with the 1933 East Grand Forks Colts, hitting .223/?/.303 and fielding .940 at second base. The next year, Skeets batted .262 for the Grand Forks Chiefs and followed with a .230 year in which he drove in a career-high 53. At age 21, he batted .246 with the Crookston Pirates. His best year was in 1937 when he put up a .316 average and 3 home runs (both highs) with the Winnipeg Maroons. In his fifth Northern League season, he just missed the league's top 10 in average. He batted .280/~.329/.360 in 1938 before his life was cut short on a pitch from Dutch Clawson.
Earlier in 1938, Ebnet had become the baseball coach at St. John's University in Collegeville, MN. He had also worked as a teacher.
