Sherwood Brewer played four different positions in four East-West Games in the dying days of the Negro Leagues.
Brewer came up in 1948 as a backup for the New York Cubans. He moved to the Indianapolis Clowns in 1949 and hit .279. In the 1949 East-West Game, he replaced Bus Clarkson in right field for the East and went 1 for 2 with a run in a 4-0 victory. He batted .298 for the '50 Clowns. In the 1950 East-West Game, the 26-year-old started at third base and hit 8th for the East. He was 0 for 3 with a walk and an error in a 5-3 loss.
Sherry hit second and manned short for the East in the 1951 East-West Game. He went 0 for 4 and made an error that led to the only West run in a 3-1 win for his side. Brewer spent 1952 with the Ardmore Indians and put up a .238/.389/.366 line in 29 games. The little infielder coaxed 22 walks in 29 contests.
Returning to the Negro Leagues (such as they were), he played for the Kansas City Monarchs in 1953-1954. He was the leadoff hitter and second baseman for the West in the 1953 East-West Game, going 1 for 3 with two runs in a 5-1 victory. He returned to the minors in 1955, hitting .288/?/.367 for the San Angelo Colts. Back with San Angelo in '56, he batted .268/?/.396 to end his career.
