Shawn Pender played in the Pittsburgh Pirates chain from 1984 to 1986.
He returned to Rollins College as an assistant coach in 1987-1988. He was an area scout and minor league coach in the Houston Astros chain from 1988 to 1991. He worked in the Cleveland Indians chain as a crosschecker and managed the Watertown Indians in 1992. He was a special assignment scout and minor league coach for the New York Yankees from 1993 to 1995, and was East Coast Scouting Supervisor with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays from 1995-98. He became National Scouting Supervisor for the Baltimore Orioles.
Pender has been the head coach at Saint Joseph's University since 2005.
