Shortstop Shawn Livsey was drafted in the first round of the 1991 amateur draft by the Houston Astros with the 29th overall pick. He was a supplemental selection in return for the team's loss of Danny Darwin to free agency.

In 1991, Shawn hit .245/~.333/.285 for the GCL Astros with 13 SB in 151 AB and a 20/23 BB/SO ratio. Returning to Florida in 1992, Livsey hit .274/~.418/.359, with 10 SB in 117 AB and an excellent 29/12 BB/SO ratio. Moving up to A ball and to the OF in 1993, Livsey hit .263/~.351/.338 for the Asheville Tourists with 26 SB and 62 BB in 453 AB. In the High-A in 1994, he hit .225/~.290/.290 for the Osceola Astros with 10 SB and 34 BB in 373 AB.

Moving to the Chicago Cubs organization, Livsey hit .283/~.367/.363 as a second baseman and stole 21 bases in 28 tries. The next year, he batted .325/~.399/.459 for the Daytona Cubs, swiped 17 in 23 attempts and also was with the Orlando Cubs, posting a line of .257/~.327/.354, getting thrown out in 8 of 21 tries. He finished his career with Orlando the next year, hittign .267/~.405/.433 in just 13 games.
