The Series Selectivas was Cuba's only successful summer league of the 20th Century despite numerous attempts. Started in 1975, it ran yearly through 1995. Many Cuban stars appeared in the circuit, including Wilfredo Sánchez, Antonio Muñoz, Agustín Marquetti, Rogelio García, Braudilio Vinent, Armando Capiró, Orestes Kindelán, Lázaro Valle, Omar Linares, German Mesa, Antonio Pacheco, Víctor Mesa, José Contreras, Pedro Luis Lazo and Ormari Romero. After several substitutes failed as badly as the league's predecessors, plans were announced to resume the Series Selectivas in 2010.
