In 1989 the Maine Phillies of the International League were replaced by the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons. The team was so popular in their debut season, that they competed against themselves on televison, one local channel aired the team's weekly show at the same time another broadcasted a live game. They were a Philadelphia Phillies farm club until they became affiliated with the New York Yankees following the 2006 season and changed names to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees.
