[edit] Biographical Information

Scotty Barr played two seasons in the majors leagues. He also played and managed in the minors.

Barr attended Davidson College in 1908, along with Carl Cashion and Everett Booe. He then played in the minors for the 1908 Greenville Spinners, along with an 18-year-old teammate named Joe Jackson. Connie Mack sent Socks Seybold to scout out Barr and Jackson, and both came to the 1908 Philadelphia Athletics with Barr making his debut on August 22 while Jackson did so on August 25. Jackson made a later debut because he had to be assisted into making the trip: he was both newly married and also terrified of being away from home. Source: The book Shoeless.

Barr was a two-way player for Greenville, going 12-6 as a pitcher and hitting .299. In the majors he was solely a position player, appearing in both the infield and the outfield.

He continued to play in the minors through 1916, apparently doing no pitching except in 1911 when he appeared in four games.

Frank Manush was also on the 1908 Athletics as well as with the New Orleans Pelicans in 1910-11.

He managed at Fort Smith in 1917.

A source says he later went into the oil industry.

He is one of five players (through 2008) with the last name Barr. Although there have been a great number of major leaguers with the name Scott, only two other are formally remembered as Scotty: Scotty Alcock and Scotty Ingerton.
