Scott Meyer came to the major leagues not long after he turned 21 years old. He had been at Western Michigan University from 1976-78, was signed by the A's in 1978, and by September 1978 was already catching in the big leagues.
The regular catcher at the time for the 1978 Athletics was Jim Essian.
Meyer had been in the Eastern League prior to his time in the majors, and was sent back to the Eastern League. He played in the minors for several more years in the organizations of the Athetics and the Tigers.
Meyer, who got one hit in the majors, is featured in the book One Hit Wonders.
