Catcher Scott Heard was selected by the Texas Rangers in the first round of the 2000 amateur draft. He helped the US win Gold at the 1999 World Junior Championship. Starting ahead of Joe Mauer, he hit .412 with two homers to tie Travis Wong for the team lead.
