[edit] Biographical Information

Scipio Spinks possessed one of several promising young arms to reach the Houston Astros in the 1960's. Like most of them, Spinks developed arm trouble. Unfortunately for Spinks, his arm miseries began before his major league career really took hold. Spinks did manage to stay healthy for 16 starts (5-5 record) with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1972 but was out of the majors a year later. The Chicago native was sent to the Cubs for Jim Hickman in March 1974 but never pitched for the Bruins.

In 1989, Spinks played for the Winter Haven Super Sox of the Senior Professional Baseball Association. He then became a scout and minor league pitching coach with the San Diego Padres and scouted for the Houston Astros from 1996 through the present (as of 2006). He also worked in the Houston area with youth baseball.
