Santo Maertz is a minor league relief pitcher currently in the St. Louis Cardinals farm system.

Prior to playing professionally, he played for Saint Peter's College for four seasons, from 2005 to 2008. In 2005, he went 1-10 with a 9.00 ERA in 11 games (10 starts). He struggled again in 2006, this time posting a 1-4 record and a 10.26 ERA in nine games, six of which were starts. Maertz improved drastically in 2007, posting an ERA of 3.59 and a record of 4-2, but he struggled again in 2008, going 1-7 with a 6.48 ERA.

Despite struggling throughout his minor league career, Maertz was drafted by the Cardinals in the 44th round of the 2008 amateur draft. He began his professional career that season with the Johnson City Cardinals, going 4-0 with a 3.15 ERA in 17 appearances. In 20 innings of work, he struck out 25 batters. He has done even better in 2009, going 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA in 14 relief appearances (through July 24) for the Batavia Muckdogs.
