Eddie Mathews, although he was not born in Santa Barbara, went to school there. He worked on his skills on the field at La Cumbre Middle School, and later attended Santa Barbara High School.

There are two current (August 2007) major leaguers who were born in Santa Barbara, both named "Ryan" - Ryan Church and Ryan Spilborghs.
