[edit] Biographical Information
Sandy Vance was a star pitcher at Stanford who was drafted in 1968 by the Dodgers (after having previously been drafted by the Angels, White Sox, and Astros). Pitching well in the minors, he was up in the majors by 1970.
The Dodgers of the time were full of sharp young players, and Vance looked to be one of the brightest of them. In 1970 he went 7-7 with a 3.13 ERA for a team that finished 2nd in the division.
The next year, though, his ERA ballooned to 6.92, and his major league career was at an end.
- Bob Boone was a teammate of Sandy's at Stanford.
