Catcher Sandy Martinez was the definitive "cup of coffee" player, having had seasons with three or less appearances four different times in his career including with the Toronto Blue Jays (1997), Montreal Expos (2001), Cleveland Indians (2004) and Boston Red Sox (also 2004).
He actually made the Expos' opening day roster in 2001, and came into their season opener against the Chicago Cubs on April 2nd as a defensive replacement for Michael Barrett but he promptly hurt his arm and had to undergo Tommy John surgery. The Expos had no other catcher on the roster and had to use infielder Mike Mordecai at the position to finish the game.
Martinez was the manager of the DSL Nationals in 2011-2016.
