San Luis Potosi Charros

Based in San Luis Potosi, San Luis Potosi, the San Luis Potosi Charros were members of the Mexican Center League for two years, 1969 and 1970. They were a farm club of the Jalisco Charros and in 1971 changed their name to the Tuneros de San Luis.

In 1969 San Luis Potosi won the first half (43-18-1) and finished second in the second half (38-27), then beat the Zacatecas Petroleros in the finals, four games to one, to take the title. They drew 39,361 fans, 6th in the 8-team league. Managed by the now-legendary Cananea Reyes, the team was second in offense (705 runs) and third in pitching/defense (518 runs allowed). The club was very well-balanced and no player had an outstanding year. Fidel Vega (15-5, 2.30) was third in the league in ERA as their top pitcher.

The club was not quite as good in 1970, going 66-60, though Vega had a fine year both on the mound (12-8, 2.75) and in the field (.295, 16 HR).
