[edit] Biographical Information

Infielder Sammy Esposito played a decade in the majors, almost all of it with the Chicago White Sox as a utility player, backing up Hall of Famers Nellie Fox and Luis Aparicio.

A Chicago native, Esposito attended Fenger High School and then Indiana University, where he played basketball. He signed with the White Sox on August 29, 1952 and appeared in his first big league game a month later. After missing part of the 1953 season and all of 1954 due to military service, he spent most of 1955 with the Memphis Chicks.

Following his big league career, Esposito was a longtime baseball coach and basketball assistant at North Carolina State University.
