Outfielder Sam Suplizio signed with the New York Yankees organization in 1954. However, before long, he suffered an injury, which ultimately ended his baseball career in 1958.
After his playing days, Suplizio was a minor league instructor for several clubs. He managed the 1958 Thomasville (GA) Dodgers from July 19 through the end of the year. Suplizio later scouted for the New York Yankees (1972-1974), California Angels (1977), and Milwaukee Brewers (1978- ).
Suplizio also was involved in bringing the expansion Colorado Rockies to Denver.
Sam Suplizio Field is the home field of Mesa State College and has hosted the NJCAA Division I Baseball World Series.
