Biographical Information

Sam King played first base for much of May for the 1884 Washington Nationals.

Walter Prince ended up playing first base for the Nationals during most of the season, although it was his last major league season.

King was born in Peabody, MA, and the Peabody library has In Good Style: The History of Baseball in Peabody. It states that Sam King was asked by Harry Wright to play for Boston in the early 1870's but his parents forbade it. He apparently played most or all of his non-major-league career for the Lynn Live Oaks in the 1870's and 1880's. After baseball he lived in Peabody the rest of his life and ran a real estate business.
