[edit] Biographical Information

Sam Calderone's major league career ended with a brief spell with the Milwaukee Braves in 1954, the team of Eddie Mathews, Warren Spahn and Joe Adcock. Calderone had a short but successful spell there, hitting .379 (11 for 29). A catcher, his path was blocked by Del Crandall and he never returned to the majors.

Calderone missed the 1951-1952 seasons due to military service.

In his autobiography, Ed Mickelson describes an Opening Day with the Portland Beavers: it was a doubleheader, 9 innings then 17 innings, with Sam Calderone catching all 26 innings.

He managed the 1960 Quincy Giants.

Calderone's obituary said that he had been battling with Parkinson's disease.
