In 2001 the Salt Lake Buzz became the Salt Lake Stingers. They reached the league finals in their second season, losing the championship to the Edmonton Trappers. In 2005 the team was bought by Larry Miller, owner of the NBA's Utah Jazz. After that season, Miller renamed the club the Salt Lake Bees.
