[edit] Biographical Information

Outfielder Salvadore Taormina was the California League MVP in 1942, his first season in O.B. He led the league with a .357 average and his 89 hits were only 4 off the lead in the abbreviated season, before the league shut down June 28. He spent the rest of the year in the Western International League where he hit .328.

Taormina missed the 1943-1945 seasons due to military service, then played from 1946 to 1960, spending 1946-1947 and 1952-1960 in the Pacific Coast League. He never hit .300 again, ending up usually in the .270-.290 range.

From 1965 to 1979, Taormina was the head coach at Santa Clara University, leading the Broncos to the Northern California Baseball Association championship in 1978.
