São Paulo is the capital of the state of São Paulo in the southeast of Brazil.
The city has an area of 1,523.0 square kilometres (588 sq mi) and a population of 11,016,703, which makes it the most populous in the southern hemisphere. It hosted the Pan American Games in 1963. The Universidade de São Paulo has four campuses in the city.
