Ryan Kurosaki was the first American of Japanese ancestry to play in the major leagues, which he did in 1975. He was with the 1975 St. Louis Cardinals.
With the Cardinals, he was three years younger than catcher Ted Simmons. The manager was Red Schoendienst.
Kurosaki was a star at Kalani High School along with Lenn Sakata. He pitched for the University of Nebraska and then in the minor leagues at Modesto and Arkansas.
He ended up pitching five years at Arkansas (along with three years at Springfield) and after baseball as of 1997 made his home in Little Rock.
