Ryan Chaffee has pitched as high as AAA.

[edit] Amateur Career

Chaffee was 8-2 with a 3.30 ERA and 92 strikeouts in 76 1/3 IP as a college freshman and 3-3, 4.07 with 85 K in 59 2/3 IP as a sophomore. He struck out 18 in the state championship. Both years, Chipola went to the Junior College World Series. The Atlanta Braves took him in the 43rd round of the 2007 amateur draft after his freshman year. After his sophomore year, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim took him in the third round of the 2008 amateur draft on the recommendation of scout Tom Kotchman. He was the Angels' second pick of the 2008 draft, following second-rounder Tyler Chatwood. Chaffee signed for $338,000, bypassing a scholarship to Louisiana State University.

[edit] Minor league career

Chaffee made his pro debut with the 2009 Cedar Rapids Kernels, going 8-8 with a 4.33 ERA. In 116 1/3 innings, he struck out 121 but walked 65, hit 16 and threw 16 wild pitches. He tied for the Midwest League in hit batsmen and tied for second in wild pitches, behind Evan Frederickson. He allowed only a .206 average. In 2010, he had a 7-6, 6.36 record for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes while his opponent average rose to .301. He struck out 83 in 104 2/3 IP.

Chaffee split 2011 between the Inland Empire 66ers (2-10, 7.26) and Salt Lake Bees (1-1, 6.52), with a 1.68 combined WHIP.
