Ruperto "Rupe" Toppin was one of the early major leaguers out of Panama. He pitched in the majors in 1962.
Rupe's minor league career stretched 10 seasons. While he was mostly a reliever, he had some seasons as a starter. He went 14-11 for Sarasota in 1961 mostly as a starter and 13-4 for Burlington in 1966, again mostly as a starter.
