Rudy Terrasas has scouted for many years. After college, he was a teacher and junior high school coach for six years. He began as an associate scout with the 1981 Philadelphia Phillies and was a full-time scout by 1983; he signed Chuck McElroy among others. He later moved on to the Texas Rangers, signing Rusty Greer as an area scout. As a crosschecker, he helped sign Scott Podsednik and Craig Monroe. From 1996-1997, he was a professional scout. Terrasas became special assistant to Rangers GM Doug Melvin and held that role until 2003. In 2003-2004, he was a scout for the Milwaukee Brewers. In 2005, he joined the New York Mets and he became their Scouting Director later that year, replacing Russ Bove; he still held that role as of 2009.
