[edit] Biographical Information
Siberia native Rudolf Razhigaev was the first Russian-raised player to pitch in Organized Baseball. A distance runner in his homeland, he was one of three Russians signed by the California Angels in 1992. The others were infielders Evgeny Puchkov and Ilya Bogatyrev. Razhigaev signed for a $1,500 bonus. In his pro debut, he was 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA for the AZL Angels, walking 9 and allowing 12 hits in 7 1/3 IP. The ERA was deceptively low as he allowed 6 unearned runs in addition to the four earned ones. In 1993, he allowed 13 hits, 6 walks and 4 runs in 5 2/3 IP for the Boise Hawks to end his minor league career.
