Ruben Cabrera was a minor league catcher. He hit .274 with 14 RBI for the 2001 DSL Dodgers. In 2002, he was 2 for 15 with a walk and a double for the GCL Dodgers. The next year, he batted .156/.233/.156 in 28 games for the GCL Dodgers, but threw out 16 of 34 attempted base-stealers. He also was 3 for 15 for the Vero Beach Dodgers that year. Cabrera is with Venezuela's club in the 2009 Baseball World Cup.

He signed with San Ignacio in Spain's Division Honor and debuted for them on February 27, 2010, hitting cleanup and catching. Cabrera went 1 for 3 with both of San Ignacio's RBI in a 10-3 loss. The lone batter who tried to steal against him, Lesther Galvan, was successful.
