Ruben Angeles has played regularly for the Philippines national team. In the 2001 Baseball World Cup, he was 2 for 20 with a steal and a run as the Filipino club's second baseman. He only fielded .824, with 6 errors in 7 games. In the 2006 Intercontinental Cup, Angeles batted .148/.148/.148 with no runs produced in nine contests. He fielded .939 at second.
In the 2007 Asian Championship, the 40-year-old was not only the lone Philippines player with hits in each game, but the only one with more than one hit in the whole tournament, going 3 for 7, better than some of the Japanese and Korean stars. He had their only hit in their loss to Hideaki Wakui of Japan. Angeles's 6 assists at second led the tourney and he made no errors.
Angeles continued to shine in his old age, being named one of the "Best Players" in the first phase of the 2009 Asian Championship, helping his country win a spot in the 2010 Asian Games.
