Rube Ellis played four seasons in the majors, getting at least 550 at-bats in each of his first three years, and over 300 in his last year.
After the 1909 season, Ellis joined a barnstorming tour that played 25 games, starting in Chicago and ending for Ellis in Los Angeles. Other major leaguers on the tour included Walter Johnson. Ellis is one of a dozen major leaguers (through 2007) born in Downey, CA. Of them, Ellis has the most major league at-bats. Ellis was born in 1885, long before the next one in 1948.
Rube played in the minors starting in 1905 and ending in 1928. He spent 13 of those years with the Los Angeles Angels, and except for one year in the Mississippi Valley League spent his minor league career exclusively with teams in the PCL.
He managed Vernon in 1925 and San Bernardino in 1929.
