Ronnie King was the visiting batboy for the Sacramento Solons from 1937 to 1940, ran the scoreboard at Edmonds Field from 1940 to 1942 and worked in the visitors' clubhouse from 1942 to 1946. After graduating from high school, he played catcher in the Cleveland Indians farm system from 1947 to 1953, missing 1951-1952 serving in the Army in Korea. King played for his hometown Solons in 1954, then pitched and caught for the Salem Senators in 1955-1956.
King later scouted for the Pittsburgh Pirates (1961-1974), Los Angeles Dodgers (1976-1988), Philadelphia Phillies (1988-1991), and Pirates again (1991-2000).
