[edit] Biographical Information

Ron Northey played twelve seasons in the big leagues, and was in the top ten in slugging three times. He came up in the war years with the Philadelphia Phillies, and was a regular outfielder with them from 1942-47. He was traded in early 1947 to the St. Louis Cardinals, where he spent most of three seasons. After that, he was in the majors five more years, increasingly becoming a pinch hitter. He was also in the minors for several years in the early 1950's.

He entered the Army in January 1945 and was discharged in November 1945.

After his playing career ended, outfielder Northey was a Chicago White Sox scout (1958-1960) and Pittsburgh Pirates coach (1961-1963).

Northey's son, Scott Northey, also played in the majors.

The SABR biography of Joe Boley says that Ron grew up as his next door neighbor.
