[edit] Biographical Information
Rollie Hemsley was a Philadelphia Athletics coach in 1954 and a member of the Washington Senators staff in 1961 and 1962. He was also twice named Minor League Manager of the Year by The Sporting News.
Rollie had a 19 year major league career as a player, starting with the 1928 Pirates and ending with the 1947 Phillies. Hemsley entered the Navy in August 1944 and was discharged in October 1945. He was an all star catcher five (5) times. He also played and coached in the Cuban Winter League.
He also was a role model for players with substance abuse problems.
