Rodney Peete was drafted in the 30th round of the 1984 amateur draft as a shortstop by the Toronto Blue Jays. He was then taken in the 14th round of the 1988 amateur draft by the Oakland A's as a third baseman, but did not sign. He was offered a $100,000 deal and payment for his final year of college, but he did not sign. He went on to a 15-year career in the National Football League as a quarterback.
