[edit] Biographical Information
"Baseball is a lot like life. The line drives are caught, the squibbers go for base hits. It's an unfair game." - Ron Kanehl'
Perhaps as much as any Met player of his time, Rod Kanehl typified the ineptitude and frustration of the original miserable Mets. A career minor leaguer until his inaugural season (1962) at age 28, Kanehl was an ordinary fielder and a .240 hitter with minimal power and a low on-base-percentage. Despite this, he proved to be versatile while playing 7 different positions.
