See also 1871 Rockford Forest Citys, the team played only one year professionally, but was an amateur team beginning in 1865. Rockford was a hotbed of baseball activity with several amateur clubs. The history of the amateur Rockford Forest Citys can be found here.

The amateur club included such luminaries as Bob Addy, Ross Barnes and Al Spalding.
