Robert Ray made his Major League debut in 2009.

Ray went 8-6 with 155 K in 146 IP in three seasons for Texas A&M. The Toronto Blue Jays took him in the 7th round of the 2005 amateur draft. He made his pro debut with the Auburn Doubledays, going 4-3 with a 2.77 ERA. he allowed a .204 average. He was 8th in the New York-Penn League in ERA. In '06, he was 2-4 with a 4.99 ERA and .306 opponent average for the Dunedin Blue Jays.

In 2007, Robert was 3-3 with a 4.86 ERA and one save for Dunedin, allowing a .304 average. He finally got back on track in 2008, which he split between Dunedin (5-3, 4.20) and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (8-6, 3.18). He led Jays farmhands in starts (29) and innings (167) and tied Brad Mills for the most wins.

He debuted in the Show with the Toronto Blue Jays on May 2, 2009. With the Jays playing Baltimore, Ray left the game after 90 pitches with the game tied 3-3, going 5 2/3 innings. He had had an eventful beginning of the season, missing spring training because of a strain in his forearm, then starting the year in A-Ball. After one start, he was promoted to AAA Las Vegas, and then after one more start, was called up to Toronto to replace the struggling David Purcey in the Jays' starting rotation. He gave up a long solo home run to Adam Jones, the second batter he faced, but settled down after that jolt. He then lost his next start against the Angels, giving up 5 runs in 6⅓ innings.

While Ray was single at the time of his debut, his girlfriend was watching in the stands besides his parents.
