[edit] Biographical Information

Robbie Widlansky won a minor league batting title.

Widlansky set the career team records for doubles and average in high school. The New York Yankees took him in the 34th round of the 2003 amateur draft but he opted for college. He hit .286/.427/.466 as a freshman at Florida Atlantic University and .317/.408/.457 as a sophomore. He batted .250/.320/.364 for the Bourne Braves in the 2005 Cape Cod League. The next year, though, Robbie was just 3 for 17 with two doubles and two walks before being sidelined by a hamstring injury.

In 2007, Widlansky was healthy again, hitting .433 and slugging .729 with 69 RBI in 58 games. He was tied for 14th in NCAA Division I in slugging and 5th in average. He led the Sun Belt Conference in average (.019 ahead of Jamie McOwen), hits (104) and doubles (24). He was named the Conference Player of the Year. He was picked as an All-American outfielder by Collegiate Baseball and the American Baseball Coaches Association, but Baseball America opted for the trio of Grant Desme, Kellen Kulbacki and Kyle Russell.

The Baltimore Orioles chose Robbie in the 11th round of the 2007 amateur draft. He had a rough pro debut with the Aberdeen Ironbirds, ekeing out a .181/.252/.264 line in 48 games.

Widlansky split 2008 between Aberdeen (.279/.340/.442, 29 RBI in 43 G) and the Delmarva Shorebirds (10 for 45, 3 2B, 3B, 2 BB). The Floridian made a big step forward in 2009, when he hti .340/.395/.506 with 31 doubles in 86 games for the Frederick Keys. He won the Carolina League batting crown, the only player over .300. He failed to make the league All-Star team, though, as Matt Angle, Derrick Robinson, Che-Hsuan Lin and Tim Fedroff were chosen as the outfielders.

Robbie opens 2010 with the Bowie Baysox.
