After his playing career, Wilfong became a scout for the Detroit Tigers in 1990. He later scouted in Southern California for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He signed Scott Moore.
Wilfong's brother, James Wilfong, was an outfielder in the Detroit Tigers chain.
