In 1995 the River City Rumblers replaced the Huntington Cubs as the Huntington, WV entry in the Appalachian League. The team, managed by Phillip Wellman, finished last at 22-45, while operating as a co-op club. Nine different organizations contributed players, led by the Baltimore Orioles who sent four players. The other eight organizations all sent three players each. Their attendance of 20,631 was second-worst in the 10-team Appy. The Rumblers had no All-Stars, were last in ERA (5.49) and 8th in runs; they were outscored 425-307. Getting players from nine different franchises, they produced no big-league regulars. One highlight was when Baltimore Orioles farmhand Ty Young (4-6, 4.67 on the year) threw a 7-inning no-hitter to beat the Elizabethton Twins 4-0 on August 3. When no club was willing to place a farm team in Huntington, the Appalachian League was forced to go to an unusual 9-team arrangement in 1996.
