Ricky Horton pitched his only complete game shutout on June 29, 1984 as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals against the San Diego Padres. Horton pitched a two hitter in that game, the only hits were a bottom of the 8th double by Kevin McReynolds and a single by Alan Wiggins. The Cardinals won the game, 5-0.
Horton pitched in 13 games in the postseason with the 1985 and 1987 St. Louis Cardinals and the 1988 Los Angeles Dodgers. He did not get a decision, pitching 17 and 2/3 innings, giving up 19 hits, 8 earned runs, 9 walks and 12 strikeouts. He was on the World Series roster two years in a row in 1987 and 1988, and was a member of the World Champion 1988 Los Angeles Dodgers.
Horton later was the pitching coach of the 1992 Kinston Indians.
Horton's brother, David Horton, was a minor league infielder for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1986-1987.
