[edit] Biographical Information

Rick Reuschel was the connsumate athlete. Aside from being a Cy Young Award-caliber pitcher, he was an excellent fielder at his position. His athletic abilities were such that his managers also used him as a pinch hitter and a pinch runner despite an apparently ungainly build (he weighed over 230 pounds for most of his career). Dealt to the New York Yankees at the time of the mid-season baseball strike of 1981, he developed arm trouble and did not pitch at all in 1982. 1983 and 1984 saw Reuschel return to the Cubs while rehabbing his arm in the minors. He then went on to pitch for the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Francisco Giants, winning 19 for the Giants in 1988 and pitching against the Cubs in the 1989 NLCS. Reuschel's strikeout total in the big leagues was 2,014.

Rick is the brother of Paul Reuschel.
