Rick Greene pitched in only one major league game but his minor league career stretched nearly a decade.

Born in Kentucky, Greene went to high school in Florida and college in Louisiana. Eleven other major leaguers played for Louisiana State during the time (1990-1992) that Greene was there, including Lyle Mouton, Andy Sheets, and Todd Walker, and LSU won the College World Series in 1991. The Detroit Tigers picked him in the first round of the 1992 amateur draft.

After competing for the United States at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, Greene pitched in the minors with the Detroit organization from 1993 to 1997, almost always as a reliever. In 1996, he had 30 saves with the Jacksonville Suns of the Southern League. Traded to the Milwaukee Brewers, in 1998 with their farm club the Louisville Redbirds of the International League, he had 18 saves.

At the start of 1999, Greene was a free agent and signed with the Cincinnati Reds. Before he came up with the Reds, he was pitching with their farm club, the Indianapolis Indians. In 2000 he played with the Louisville RiverBats and with the Salt Lake Buzz.

Greene moved on the the independent leagues in 2001, pitching for the Baton Rouge Blue Marlins of the All-American Association and pacing the circuit with 21 saves.
