[edit] Biographical Information
Pitcher Richard Dotson was selected by the California Angels in the first round of the 1977 amateur draft and was traded to the Chicago White Sox later that year. He made his big league debut in 1979 and was perhaps the most consistently solid member of the Sox rotation in the 1980s. He had his best season in 1983, when he went 22-7 with a 3.23 ERA for the division champion 1983 White Sox.
Dotson is a classic example of a player playing one year too many. Instead of retiring on top of his game as a member of the Chicago White Sox, the team with which he had known all his successes, Dotson signed with the Kansas City Royals to play one more season of professional baseball in 1990. Dotson's 1990 season was marked with disaster, finishing 0-4 with an ERA over 8.
Since retiring, pitcher Dotson has been a minor league pitching coach in the Chicago White Sox organization.
- 2002 Coach Bristol White Sox
- 2003-2004 Pitching coach Great Falls White Sox
- 2005-2007 Pitching coach Birmingham Barons.
- 2008 Pitching coach Charlotte Knights
